benton :: golden mix

BENTON FOUND A GREAT HOME IN CONNECTICUT!

Benton boy is just the sweetest thing you'll ever meet!  He's about 6 months old, and it's anyone's guess as to what kind of mix he is!  He is very playful, but plenty calm in the house when it's time to snuggle.  He gets along great with other dogs, but he likes to chase anything that runs away from him (which can include cats).  He's GREAT in his crate and is working on housebreaking.  He's a very responsive and smart boy, as well!  His coat is very soft and he will make a wonderful little boy for any loving family!

coosa :: sheltie/collie mix

COOSA HAS A LOVING HOME IN PENNSYLVANIA!

Coosa is an energetic 2-year-old, BEAUTIFUL boy!  When we were scanning the local animal shelter for adoptable pups, we knew Coosa would make someone a wonderful pet.  He is crate trained, knows how to sit, and loves to give you his paw (whether you ask for it or not).  He is a sweet boy that loves to give kisses. He's very smart and eager to please.   It's hard to tell under all his fluff, but he's a little underweight.  He's only about 40 lbs, but will hopefully fill out with some better food and lots of love.  He has the sweetest (and most mischievous) smile.

chocolate :: purebred lab

CHOCOLATE LOVES HIS NEW HOME IN NEW ENGLAND!

Chocolate is a wonderful mix of calm and playful.  He's probably around 2 years old.  He will play non-stop if there's someone around that's interested, but if not, he's content to lay at your feet and take a nap.  We know very little about Chocolate's past.  One day he walked up to a nice couple's house out in the country.  They left food and water out for him, and he just kept sticking around - no fence or anything!  So they took a couple pictures of him for us to post.  He did great around their grandchild.  Now that he's in a foster home, we're learning much more about what a wonderful and happy dog he is.

charlie :: purebred lab

CHARLIE FOUND HIS PERFECT PENNSYLVANIAN PEOPLE!

Charlie is the most precious boy.  He is very timid, but he has been warming up already.  It is almost for sure that he had been abused by a man, and he's even skiddish around women at first, as well.  Though, once he starts to come out of his shell he is simply the sweetest thing ever.  I learn more about him everyday as he continues to become more comfortable.  He's going to make the most amazing pup for some very loving and patient family.

dj :: purebred irish setter

DJ FOUND HIS FOREVER FAMILY WITH OUR PARENTS!

DJ is a three-and-a-half-year-old bundle of love!  He is a big ol' wiggle worm that is just happy to be near you.  He was surrendered to Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue by his former family in very poor shape.  Though we were told he was purchased from a Golden Retriever breeder, there is little doubt that he's really an Irish Setter, but we love him anyway!  He had lived outside his entire life and had probably never seen a brush (a big deal with a Irish Setter).  He was COVERED in mattes, and his ears were caked with layers and layers of earwax that had turned into a very unpleasant tar-like substance.  After two hours of brushing, an entire bottle of powerful ear cleaning gel, one flea bath, one oatmeal bath, and lots of clipping and buzzing he started to look like someone actually cared.  He's taking very well to a life of couch-laying and air conditioning!  His skin and coat are looking and feeling better everyday, and he's ready for his forever home!

cassie :: golden retriever mix

CASSIE FOUND A FOREVER FAMILY IN NEW ENGLAND!

Cassie is the cutest little fluff ball!  It's hard to tell exactly what kind of mix she is. Maybe a Golden Retriever and Shetland Sheepdog mix? But one thing that's for sure is that this three-month-old mix is super sweet and precious. She loves playing with any other pup that's interested, and she's learning quickly how to walk on a leash.

starbuck :: lab/staffordshire mix

STARBUCK FOUND A HOME TO CALL HIS OWN!

Don't let his look fool you... Starbuck is just one tough-looking cuddle buddy.  He is a two-year-old Lab/Staffordshire Terrier mix that LOVES kids of every age!  He is just so playful and loving!  He's such a good little buddy.  He's quite happy to lay around all day or play and play and play!  His favorite spots are the couch and bed!  We've been working on the crate training and he's doing better and better everyday.  Please consider bringing such a precious boy of a misunderstood breed into your home.

bridgett :: toller mix

BRIDGETT FOUND HER NEW HOME IN NEW ENGLAND!

 Bridgett is a nine-month-old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever mix that loves people more than anything (food comes next).  She loves, loves, loves to give kisses and snuggle up for some rubs.  She would splash around all day in the pool if you would let her, at least until she got hungry or you started throwing a ball for her!  She's a playful little pooch that will win your heart in no time.

bandit :: great pyrenees/border collie mix

BANDIT FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME IN NEW ENGLAND!

Bandit is an absolute sweetheart.  Our best guess is that he is a Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix.  He is a very playful two-year-old that LOVES to play fetch with any ball you can find!  He takes a few detours on his way back, but eventually you get the ball back!  He loves to give lots of kisses and cuddles.  He's a big boy, about 80 lbs, but he doesn't know it!  He's very gentle, and desires nothing more than to just be near you.  Bandit does great in a crate or left to roam around.  He is just SO lovable!!!  He will be greatly missed!

BAM BAM FOUND A HOME WITH OUR ALABAMA FAMILY!

Bam Bam is Pebbles' brother and is such a darling little boy!  He loves to play fetch and is very good at bringing it back to you!  He is simply adorable and is quite content just being around you.  Whether it's laying around all day, going for a run, or playing with his foster brothers, he is sure to melt your heart!

pebbles :: lab/aussie mix

PEBBLES FOUND A WONDERFUL NEW HOME IN MAINE!

Pebbles is the sweetest little girl EVER!  Her foster mom and dad have completely fallen in love with her and are going to be VERY sad to see her go.  Her momma is a 40-pound black lab mix, and judging by her now pricked ears, her daddy was probably an australian cattle dog.  Pebbles, her momma, and her four siblings were in a kill shelter and were scheduled to be euthanized on May 12th. However, thanks to the great volunteers of Friends of Retrievers (FOR) Rescue, they were saved!  She is currently about 9 weeks old and will most likely be a medium-sized dog. She is so cute, smart, and fairly calm, especially for a puppy.  Still, she's very inquisitive and a little mouthy but very responsive to any correction, though it's hardly ever needed.  She will surely steal you heart as she has many others' already.  Pebbles will be ready to go to her new home at the end of May, as she will need to have her second set of shots and be spayed (**foster parents secretly cheering for more time with Pebbles**).

    riley :: german shepherd/lab mix

    RILEY FOUND HIS HOME AS AN ALABAMA LAP DOG!

    Riley is one big ol' gentle giant.  He is the brother of Whisper.  Riley is a 90-pound lap dog!  He loves to give kisses, and he gets along well with Whisper and other medium or large dogs.  Just like Whisper, he doesn't know his own strength... he just gets so happy to be around people!  He has been wonderful with everyone he has ever met.  You won't find one person that's not a fan!  Riley's owner had to move and couldn't take him or Whisper with him.  So, his elderly mother was keeping them tied up in her backyard, but was soon going to take them to the shelter.  He and Whisper have been outside dogs their whole lives, but they are crate trained.  Riley is a very attentive dog whose only desire is to please you!  His foster dad would keep him if we could!  Get him before he does!  :)

    whisper :: german shepherd/lab mix

    WHISPER FINALLY FOUND HER HOME IN NEW ENGLAND!

    Whisper is a very sweet, loving girl.  She is the sister of Riley.  She wants nothing more than to give you LOTS of kisses!  She gets along very well with everyone!  She is great on a leash, and is wonderful with kids, other dogs, and even cats. Whisper's owner had to move and couldn't take her or Riley with him.  So, his elderly mother was keeping them tied up in her backyard, but was soon going to take them to the shelter.  She is a smart girl as she had been an outside dog her whole life, but is already house trained!  Unfortunately, Whisper came to us heartworm positive, BUT she's currently on treatment and doing WONDERFULLY!  She's a tough cookie, as you can't even tell she's sick!  She will be finished with her treatment soon, but she is ready to come home to you today!

      lily :: lab/terrier mix

      LILY FOUND A NEW HOME IN HUNTSVILLE!

      Lily is a playful, 15-week-old, yellow lab mix puppy. She was taken to the vet to have her broken leg fixed, but her family never returned for her. Since the vet's office could not perform the surgery without the owner's approval, her broken leg fused back together on its own. Thankfully, it did so as straight as possible, and you can hardly tell anything was wrong! However, it is still in the healing process. So, for the next six weeks her mobility must be limited to only leash walks and playtime in small areas... no running! Lily is still a puppy and everything that comes with that. She is very loving, playful, and friendly. She LOVES people and wants to play with everyone (people and other dogs) she sees. She still needs to learn that people don't like it when she uses her mouth to play, and she still needs a little bit more time to finish house training. She loves to please and will eagerly learn whatever you have to teach her. She needs someone that is willing to nurse her back to health and teach her perfect puppy manners. In return she will love you with every little wiggly inch!

        kizmet :: border collie mix

        KIZMET FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME IN HUNTSVILLE!

        Kizmet is a one-year-old male border collie with lots of energy and an amazing personality! Kizmet loves human affection and is very smart! This little guy could learn anything! He loves to be in your lap! He is currently being fostered as an outside dog, however, he would be great inside as well. He needs something to chew on, but as long as he's got a toy of his own, he's just fine. He has a bone that he loves to play fetch with (and he actually will bring it back to you)! He rarely barks, and has been good with every person/child or dog that he has met. Kizmet also does great in the car! He does need lots of exercise, but he would be great as an running/hiking companion or as an agility dog.
